More projects…

We finally have a working printer which has enabled me to print out some patterns I’ve had on my computer for a long time. The first one is the Coffee Date Dress from BurdaStyle. I had this fabric laying around that I think I acquired from a project at my old job with Chrestomathy. It has worked really well so far and has been pretty simple to make.
This quilt project was one I thought would be fairly quick and simple. Boy was I wrong. I had bought the fabric when I worked at JoAnn’s six years ago, after seeing a quilt in a magazine using stripes. I had no idea how much I needed so I acquired 13 yards of it. I’ve been meaning to get around to working with it and last week, I decided to.

So, first of all, cutting squares on the bias of striped fabric is a pain in the butt and seems impossible to do with a ruler and rotary cutter. So I stared cutting squares which were then cut into 4 triangles which would be sewn together in pairs. But upon laying them on my project wall, I realized that the two sets of pairs created two different patterns. This was the pattern I’d originally envisioned:

This is the second design the triangles created:

I think I actually like the unintentional one better and I think I might just end up making two quilts. What one quilt uses 13 yards of fabric just for the front, anyway? I will also have all the mess up and left over odd squares to use elsewhere. I still have a lot of work ahead of me…

So much for quick and easy. But the end result will be awesome!

Oh, and for those of you that don’t have and/or check Facebook, the piecing of my last quilt project was completed and I am pretty happy with it. On of these days I’ll baste and quilt the thing (along with the 4 other quilt tops hanging in my closet).
