I went down to Floyd yesterday to a three story old school house that is now a fabric store. It is packed with fabric and notions and just about anything you could need, except for everything I want. I was overwhelmed but not just by the sheer amount of stuff but by the lack of anything I liked. I got a dessert roll (20 5″x44″ strips of different fabric) of red, black, and white for a quilt I started a couple years ago and just didn’t have enough variety of fabric for, and a fat quarter bundle (18″x22″ pieces) of 1930s prints. Those will both be fun to use but really, no Heather Ross, Amy Butler, Joel Dewberry, Heather Baily, or Denyse Schmidt (or things similar)!? Not all quilters are old(er) and want to use reproduction fabrics.

I have one more quilt shop in town to try (though I already know they won’t have most of that either) and then one in Lynchburg, about an hour away. It’s a college town, so maybe there’s hope.
