I have the worst self discipline!

Ugh, I’m sorry for disappearing again. I don’t know why I do that! But I must change! Of course it always happens that the longer I go without blogging, the more I have to update y’all on, and the more overwhelmed I get, so I go even longer. But it stops here!

I have not been sewing very much lately, though I have been crafty. I have begun my fall and winter knitting and I find myself being in love with Jane Richmond’s knitting patterns (and she is gorgeous, too). I bought a couple hat patterns, a sweater, and a bolero pattern from her last winter but it got warm within a couple weeks so I put them aside. I had even bought the yarn for the hats months ago at Fibre Space in Alexandria, VA so with fall finally in the air, I finally cast on the Jane hat a few days ago. I had my fair share of problems… I made a mistake on the brim somewhere so I had to take an inch or so out, then I realized I knit the whole brim with the wrong sized needles (pictured above) so I took it all out and started over. From then on I did alright, minus another mistake near the end that took a couple hours to back track to and fix. I finished it a few days ago and it’s a tad small but I love it!I have a goal to make a sweater this year and while I want to make this one, I think I’ll go with the one I bought already. (She does have some free patterns over at the end of her Ravelry page if you’re interested, or support her artistry and buy one at her Etsy shop.) Bring on the cold weather! I also still have the bias blanket to finish

and I bought some yarn to make some dishcloths.

I finished my first embroidered camera! (Pictures will come soon. I’d rather post this now than go home and hope to remember to take pictures before I post it!) The Polaroid isn’t perfect by any means but I like it and while I’ve been trying to find a bunch of embroidery hoops on ebay, I haven’t had much luck yet. I started on a Spartus Rocket camera and am slowly but surely making progress.

I haven’t done a thing to my hexagon quilt. Well, I take that back, I basted one new hexagon and then realized my scissors were with my embroidery and was too lazy to find them so they lay neglected downstairs. One of these days!

I have done a little bit of work on my spiderweb quilt, but I really do mean a little. I made two more triangle sections for it and haven’t even sewn them together. I don’t know where my sewing stamina went. I keep hearing about this famed fabric store in Walkertown, about 20 minutes north of here and might go up there this week. It supposed to be one of those overwhelmed -by -the-fabric-stacked-to-the-ceiling, you-could-spend-hours-here kind of stores. I need to get the rest of the fabric for this darned commission!

I started to finish sanding down a chair I found by the side of the road almost a year ago. (About time, I know.) I still haven’t decided what to paint it, though I bought some dark teal for my desk which means I should get to stripping and sanding that. I have another chair to be painted, too but and undecided on color. I’m also considering painting the plastic Adirondack-type chairs we have on the patio and making cushions for them with some of Amy Butler’s laminated cotton (and maybe even some place mats and bench cushions for the picnic table).

Speaking of outdoors, I recently made some Mason jar lanterns for our patio area.

When we were first looking at our house it was our neighborhood’s bulk item pick up day and I saw this great wooden crate in front of our neighbor’s house. I realized the crate was pretty flimsy but I looked inside to find it full of Mason jars.I bought some wire, sand, and candles and voila! I wasn’t able to get a picture of them lit up at night (I really need a tripod and I really want one like this) but they look lovely. Now I’m ready for another dinner party!

Hmm, what else… I think I’m going to do a small craft show in December that my friend Laura Lashley sets up every year at Krankies Coffee. It’s nothing fancy and I’m not totally sure what I’m going to make but I’m looking forward to it. I think I’ll grab some ideas from my list of 30 projects (in 30 days, something I’m still trying to decide on the timing for). I’ll keep you posted on what might be for sale!

That’s all I can think of right now. Just in general life, work is going alright though I’m still not thrilled to be there. Jackson and Adelaide are doing well. I am trying to have them out of their crates as much as possible when I’m home but they can get so hyper. Poor Jackson wants someone his own size to play with and loves when we go to the dog park and do that. It’s only a matter of time before Addie gets his size; she’s gaining 2-3 pounds a week and is getting noticeably bigger. I love our puppies so much! And of course, Amos is as cute as ever.

  1. I had candles like those at our wedding reception…wait…you were there! That was so cool. I didn't have many friends there, I'm glad you could stop by :)

  2. Glad I don't remember those… but I'm really glad I was able to go, too. That was a super fun road trip. I can hardly believe it's been what, over 4 years? Good times :)
